My school's football team featured in The New York Times. Pretty cool.
What a beautiful building.
I linked to this music video back in January (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC2dRkm8ATU). This is a short "making of". It's an incredible piece of visual effects.
The undercurrent of racism and xenophobia in Trump's campaign is to me its scariest aspect. And the worst part of his electoral victory is that those who are racist and xenophobic now feel vindicated and emboldened to do so publicly.
I'm not claiming that "if you voted for Trump then you are racist". But I do think that those who voted for Trump need to acknowledge that this problem exists and that they chose to put it low enough in their list of priorities that it wasn't enough to deter them from voting from Trump.
Prediction: We already saw an uptick in hate crimes this past year. It will be worse this coming year.
Re: Elections tomorrow, in case you have not voted early.
This is not about some of the most commonly discussed issues disqualifying Trump to be president (i.e. racism, sexism, demagoguery, etc.).
This is about Trump's stance on nuclear weapons and NATO. I don't think Trump being president means nuclear war. But I do believe that his stance of these issues are yet another example of how incredibly, deeply unprepared he is to be president of the United States.
Even if Trump loses, he's done huge damage to this country. His legacy will include empowering the absolute worst racist scum to crawl out of their hole and come to the forefront.
Awesome list. I hope they keep it up to list.
This is Nintendo's next video game system. No more separate portable vs console systems. I bet it's computationally-speaking underpowered, compared to PS and Xbox (and iPhone 7) and it probably doesn't matter.
This Salton Sea thing is new to me. Very interesting. I remember something like that was a concern with the Red Sea - Dead Sea Canal project (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Sea–Dead_Sea_Canal)
It's amazing what fans do. And to think that LucasFilm could just do it themselves and sell it for lots of cash.
As a teenager, Adolfo Kaminsky saved thousands of lives by forging passports to help children flee the Nazis. He spent his life helping others escape atrocities around the world.
Super cool extreme biking.
Great and accessible overview.
Prediction: No lawsuit will be filed.
UNESCO's vote denying historic Jewish connection to Jerusalem is some of the most sickening, blatant antisemitism to come out of the UN recently. You don't vote on history, just like you don't vote to decide whether 2+2 is 4 or 4.5. This is historical revisionism at it worse, comparable to Holocaust denial.
I'm outraged and insulted that Mexico voted for it (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4866113,00.html)
Also of note, the statement of UNESCO's Director-General AGAINST the resolution: http://www.unesco.org/new/en/media-services/single-view/news/statement_by_the_director_general_of_unesco_on_the_old_city-1/#.WAEBQaOZOEI
My prediction: Within 24 months, the vast majority of flagship phones will not have a headphone jack.
I find this pretty wild.
Apple wants to put a camera in its phone that can take photos similar to what you accomplish on an SLR with a big lens with a big aperture. Can't get the optics to fit.
So instead: They put two cameras in the phone, each with a small aperture; perform intensive computation in order to create a depth map based on the offset of the two photos, then digitally apply gaussian blur to the right areas of the image.
Same effect?
Very funny
