Statistics and graphs about the COVID-19 Coronavirus epidemic.
File under: No shit.
Scary numbers, worth a read.
So many of my childhood "heroes".
I just came back from my work-sponsored training for the Capitol 10K race to find this article. #2, not bad.
It only took 20 years: The FDA is making changes to the nutrition facts label. They look good. For starters, the thing people look for the most (calories) is now printed using a large font. Second, the laughably small surreal serving sizes are changing to better (but not quite) match the super sized servings of the U.S.A.
This one always caught my attention. In my personal experience, none of my friends growing up in Mexico were allergic to peanuts. I didn't even know such a thing existed. I'd go to summer camp in Mexico and nobody was allergic. Then I go to summer camp in the US and peanut allergy is a huge deal over here. Genetics? No. In both camps we were mostly ashkenazi jews with the same exact genetic makeup. In Israel? Again, same genetic makeup, and kids gobble up peanut-made Bamba since very early. To me this is clear indication of an environmental factor. Which means that it can be corrected / adjusted.
A mathematician looks at the obesity epidemic in the US. Math is a great tool to abstract and model reality in a way in which opinion and sentiment does not get in the way. Very interesting article.
People love their pseudoscience and paying attention to bullshit arguments as if they were true. This is just another example.
This is a step in the right direction and other countries should adopt similar laws.
I think we'd all rather know than not.
Schizophrenia has long been blamed on bad genes or even bad parents. Wrong, says a growing group of psychiatrists. The real culprit, they claim, is a virus that lives entwined in every person's DNA.
Very interesting read.
We're number 1! We're number one!
Excellent 19 page strip about homeopathy. If you know anyone who believes in this shit, this is a quick way to educate such person, presented in an easy to digest comic strip format.
Read this and you will stop drinking a lot of these things.
Awesome bubble graph (with link to source Google doc).
