I've been saying this for some time now: Almost everything you can do with NFC, you can duplicate with a combination of Bluetooth and WiFi. The difference is that most phones already have Bluetooth and WiFi. Adding NFC hardware adds cost, size, and power consumption.
Another alternate input method. On-screen keyboards got popular on smartphones but rely too much on error correction. We got to where we are due to historical reasons, not because it's the best way to type on a phone.
